Kinglake Friends of the Forest is a volunteer run organisation that provides a forum for people to learn about, discuss and advocate for the preservation of native forests in Victoria. We carry out this work through a number of avenues:

Political

We are calling on the Andrews Government to immediately transition out of native forest logging and stop broadscale burning of native forests.

Despite being a wealthy, developed nation, Australia's environmental track record is among the worst of all countries. We lead the world in mammal extinctions, have the highest rate of biodiversity loss bar Indonesia, and have been recognised as a land-clearing and deforestation “hotspot".

— Canberra Times, June 2020

It’s time for the Victorian Government to clean up its act.

Community

Our native forests are loved by regional communities that live amongst them and city residents alike. Observing the life of our forests and sharing knowledge with our communities is central to what we do. We run regular info sessions and events, citizen science expeditions in the forest, and maintain a presence in local markets and meeting places - come say hi!

Legal

“Native forestry has been hit with increasingly severe bushfires, prolonged legal action and court decisions… there are no options for regulatory reform which can prevent further legal injunctions continuing to disrupt native timber harvesting operations.

Native timber harvesting in state forests will end in 2024.”
