“Dear Premier Allan,
We are residents of the Kinglake ranges and region including, but not limited to, Toolangi, Glenburn, Marysville, Healesville, Flowerdale, Steels Creek, Strathewen, Hurstbridge and St Andrews.
As you will be aware, our communities suffered horrifically in the Black Saturday bushfire.
We hope never to experience another catastrophic bushfire like 2009. But we must be prepared. That is why we are writing to implore you to urgently update Victoria’s bushfire mitigation practices in line with recent science and new technology.
We are deeply concerned that the current planned burning regime is not effective, is endangering threatened species and it is harming public health.”

A HUGE WIN FOR NATIVE FORESTS
Native forest logging to end in Victoria by January 1, 2024 - six years ahead of schedule
Now the hard work begins to restore logged forests and protect them from rogue logging and industrial burning…
Each year, thousands of hectares of forest and bushland far from towns are deliberately burned in an attempt to mitigate bushfire risk.
But planned burning is not working, for the environment or human safety.
Read more and sign the petition to stop broadscale burning of forests.
“One thing is clear: if we still want forests in our flammable country, we must stop burning their defences away.”

Appeal dismissed!
On June 27 the Appeals Court threw out VicForests’ appeal against the “Glider Case” decision that was handed down by the Supreme Court in November. This result confirms that VicForests has been logging illegally by failing to adequately survey for or protect threatened Greater Gliders and Yellow-bellied Gliders. VicForests was ordered to pay KFF and EEG’s costs.

KFF joined 19 environment groups from across Victoria to co-publish ‘After the Logging’.
The report is based on the government’s own data and finds that 1 in 3 areas logged are failing to regenerate. Our forests are being converted into weed infested wastelands of blackberries and bracken.
Greater Gliders are one of several threatened and endangered species who depend on Victoria’s forests for survival.
